Towson, Md. – The Hofstra Softball team took a split with Towson on Friday afternoon at Tiger Softball Stadium, falling, 4-3, in Game 1 before rebounding with an authoritative 12-0 win in six innings in Game 2.
The Pride moved to 36-12 overall and 16-4 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while the Tigers went to 40-14 and 13-7.
Hofstra's pitching staff combined for just six hits on the day. Senior
Sarah Edwards went 3-for-3 in Game 1, while four Pride batters picked up two hits in Game 2.
Game 1:
Sophomore
Kristin Hallam got on base with an error to lead-off, before stealing second and advancing to third on a second error. Senior
Brielle Pietrafesa's groundout brought Hallam home for a 1-0 Hofstra lead. A solo shot to dead-center from senior
Sarah Edwards doubled the advantage.
The Tigers pulled ahead in the bottom of the fourth, putting up four runs on a pair of two-run homers.

Nikki Michalowski loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the seventh. A one-out base hit from senior
Kaitlyne Musa brought in one run and kept the bases loaded, but the Pride's rally fell short, stranding three runners.
Despite the loss, sophomore pitcher
Sarah Cornell (21-7) allowed just three hits and struck out seven.
Game 2:
Both sides went down in order in the first inning of Game 2, before four walks and a pitch that hit Hallam brought in two runs for the Pride in the top of the second.
Senior
Brittany Allocca hit her 12th home run of the season to push the advantage to 3-0.
Hofstra exploded for nine runs in the top of the sixth. Senior
Megan Patierno walked with one out and moved to second on wild pitch before Musa singled to center field. A double from redshirt-senior
Michaela Transue drove in one run, before and a base hit from Hallam loaded the bases. Allocca's infield single plated Musa, and a walk to Edwards brought in another run. Singles from Musa and Hallam sprinkled among three more walks gave the Pride the 12-0 lead.
Freshman pitcher
Sophie Dandola (15-5) then retired the side in the bottom of the sixth, allowing just three hits in her fourth solo shutout of the season.
Notes:
-Hofstra now has 61 home runs on the season, expanding on the team's single-season record.
-The Pride's 11 walks in Game 2 were a season high.
-Allocca's 12 home runs on the season are tied for eighth all-time in program history.
-Hofstra has won 14 games via run-rule this season.
