Philadelphia – The Hofstra Women's Basketball team's season ended on Wednesday afternoon with an 88-72 loss to Charleston at Drexel's Daskalakis Athletic Center.
The seventh-seeded Pride (11-19, 5-13 CAA) finished with five players in double figures, led by sophomore
E'Lexus Davis. Senior
Olivia Askin and sophomore
Mikiyah Croskey each chipped in 15, with Croskey finishing one rebound off a double-double. Senior
Aleana Leon and sophomore
Marianne Kalin each added 11.
The 10th-seeded Cougars (7-23, 2-16 CAA) got double-figure performances from four players, led by Darien Huff's 22 points on an 8-for-9 shooting day.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle, with Hofstra taking the biggest lead of the frame at 10-5 with a jumper from junior
Boogie Brozoski. Charleston clawed back, using a 6-0 run to take a 17-14 lead before closing the quarter with a 21-18 advantage over the Pride.
Sophomore
Mikiyah Croskey cut the deficit to one to open the second but five points from Darien Huff pushed the Cougars lead to 26-20. After Charleston had opened up a nine-point advantage, sophomore
E'Lexus Davis knocked down a three, but the Cougars closed the quarter on a 13-2 run to take a 46-29 lead into halftime.
Charleston pushed the advantage to 23 in the third, before the Pride outscored the Cougars, 27-21, in the fourth. A 6-0 run from Hofstra in the final frame, including senior Askin's fourth three-pointer of the day, cut the deficit to 18. Another 9-0 spurt then shaved it to 11, 81-70, but Charleston used free throws to cap the 88-72 victory.
Notes:
-Croskey finished in double figures for the third time this season.
-Davis picked up her 11th game in double digits.
-Askin and Kalin each picked up their 10th double-figure performance of the season.
-Leon led the Pride with 20 double-digit scoring outings on the year.
-After going 11-for-11 from beyond the arc against the Cougars in the regular season, Askin was 5-for-7 from three-point range.
-Hofstra is now 7-4 all-time against Charleston.
-The Pride is 10-17 all-time in the CAA Championship.
