Alejandra Ruffini posted singles victories for Hofstra but the Pride fell to St. John's, 5-2, Sunday night at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Hofstra slipped to 5-5 on the year, while the Red Storm improved to 8-3.
After taking the doubles point, St. John's went up 2-0 following a straight set win by Jessica Livianu over the Pride's
Jasmine King at No. 1. Ruffini cut the deficit in half with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Jaide Collins at No. 3. St. John's would win the next three singles flights including a 6-1, 6-2 victory by Irina Preotescu over
Odessa Stork at No. 5 that clinched the match. Kaplan did record the Pride's final point with a three-set win at No. 2 over Olaya Inclan Solis (3-6, 6-4, 6-4).
Hofstra is back in action Friday night at Siena.
