WTEN: Hofstra Drops Close Match At Lehigh

Box Score Bethlehem, PA - Lehigh won at sixth singles to earn the decisive point in a 4-3 victory over Hofstra Saturday at the Lewis Tennis Center.

The Pride (5-4) jumped out to an early lead after sweeping the doubles matches to start the day. The teams of Sarah Catherine Herndon/Jasmine King and Alejandra Ruffini/Ronia Dolabany picked up 6-4 wins at the first and second flights, respectively, to give the Pride a 1-0 lead. Michal Kaplan and Disha Yellayi won at the third flight, 7-6, to complete the sweep.

Lehigh (4-3) got off to a strong start in the singles competition, as the Mountain Hawks won three of the first four matches to take a 3-2 lead after completion of the fourth singles flight. Ruffini had the Pride's lone singles win at that point, a three-set win over Sibel Can (4-6, 6-0, 6-4) at No. 3. Yellayi would then tie the match up for Hofstra with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 over Casey Zhong. But Briana Maravich of Lehigh defeated Odessa Stork at No. 6 (6-3, 6-3) to give the Mountain Hawks the win.

The Pride will look to rebound at St. John's on Sunday night.
