SB: Hofstra Hosts Connecticut, Fordham Midweek

Hempstead, N.Y. – The Hofstra Softball team brings a seven-game win streak into the week, hosting a pair of non-conference contests, beginning with a matchup with Connecticut at 3 p.m. on Tuesday and followed by a tilt against Fordham at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, both at Bill Edwards Stadium.
 
Both games will be available via live stats and Pride Productions live video and audio, with audio provided by WRHU Radio Hofstra University. Links to game coverage can be found on this page and the Hofstra Softball schedule page.
 
The Pride (17-7, 3-0 CAA) opened Colonial Athletic Association play with a series sweep of UNCW this weekend, outscoring the Seahawks, 23-5, over the three games. Hofstra's offense put on a show, launching seven home runs, including two grand slams in 3-2, 14-1 and 8-0 victories for the Pride.
 
Seniors Megan Patierno and Brielle Pietrafesa each had a pair of homers on the weekend, with one of Patierno's being a grand slam. Classmate Sarah Edwards also added a grand slam for her third homer of the season.
 
Senior Brittany Allocca also added a home run while also setting the Hofstra record for career walks, recording three on the weekend to move her career total to 103.
 
In the circle, sophomore Sarah Cornell and freshman Sophie Dandola continued to be strong. Cornell was named CAA Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after earning a pair of victories and striking out 21. Dandola picked up a win and a save on the weekend, allowing just four hits and walking none.
 
The Huskies fell to 13-19 this weekend after being swept by South Florida in the opening weekend of American Athletic Conference play. Olivia Sappington leads the team with a .278 batting average, five home runs and 14 RBIs. Jill Stockley leads the way in the circle, with a 6-7 record and a .207 ERA. Connecticut and Hofstra split a doubleheader last season as the Pride's lead in the all-time series moved to 25-18.
 
The Rams swept Dayton in the first weekend of Atlatnic 10 play to improve to 12-15 on the season. Chelsea Skrepenak leads the team with a .387 average, while Madi Shaw boasts a team-leading seven home runs and 22 RBIs. Madie Aughinbaugh has seen the most work in the circle, recording a 6-6 record and 3.70 ERA. Hofstra increased its lead the all-time series to 10-4 last season, coming away with a 3-2 win at Fordham.
 
The Pride gets back into conference play this weekend, heading to Elon for a three-game series, beginning with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday and closing with a single game at noon on Sunday.
