WSOC: Hofstra Earns Fourth Straight Shutout In CAA-Opening Win Over Delaware

Newark, Del. – The Hofstra Women's Soccer team opened Colonial Athletic Association play with a 2-0 win over Delaware on Thursday night at Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium.

The Pride (5-3-2, 1-0 CAA) has now recorded four consecutive shutouts for the first time since 2010. Senior Rhian Cleverly notched her first career goal to get the Pride on the board, bending a free kick in to give Hofstra a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute. Junior Jenn Buoncore then doubled the Pride's advantage in the 63rd minute, capitalizing on a turnover in the box for her second tally of the season.

Delaware (3-5-2, 0-1 CAA) matched Hofstra, with each side mustering eight shots and four on goal, but Pride goalkeepers Jenna Borresen and Ashley Wilson combined for the shutout, each playing a half and making two saves.

Hofstra returns home on Sunday to square off with UNCW at 1 p.m. at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
