SB: #2 Hofstra Falls to #1 James Madison in CAA Championship Game

Harrisonburg, Va. – No. 2 seed Hofstra Softball fell to top-seeded James Madison, 9-0, in five innings in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship game on Friday morning at Veterans Memorial Park.
 
The Pride finished the season 27-23, marking the program's 28th straight season with a winning record. Freshman Kristin Hallam and juniors Sarah Edwards and Kaitlyne Musa were named to the CAA All-Tournament Team. Hallam finished the tournament with five hits and an RBI while Edwards went added four hits, six walks and three RBIs. Musa had a stellar tournament behind the dish for Hofstra.
 
Hallam led off the top of the first with a first-pitch double, and junior Brielle Pietrafesa followed it up with a single to left field to put runners on first and second. Junior Brittany Allocca reached on a fielder's choice, with the Dukes throwing Hallam out at the plate. James Madison pitcher Megan Good then walked Edwards to load the bases with one out, but a pair of strikeouts from Good ended the inning.
 
The Dukes got on the board in the bottom of the first, with Michala Pellegrino beating a rundown between third and home, but the Pride got the second out of the inning on the play, throwing to second. Freshman pitcher Sarah Cornell struck out CAA Rookie of the Year Odicci Alexander looking to head to the second.
 
James Madison tacked on two more runs in the second and four in the third.
 
Senior Lacey Clark dropped a single into left field to lead off the top of the fourth before junior Megan Patierno walked for runners on first and second with no outs. The Dukes tagged Clark out at third with Musa reaching safely on a fielder's choice. Good then hit freshman Sam Tomasetti with a pitch, loading the bases with one out, but the Dukes once again escaped the inning.
 
James Madison added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to seal the win.
