Harrisonburg, Va. – Facing a 4-1 deficit in the bottom of the seventh, No. 2 seed Hofstra Softball scored three runs, evening the score at four on an RBI double from
Megan Patierno to force extra innings against No. 3 College of Charleston. The Pride then scored the winning run in the bottom of the tenth on a walk-off single from freshman
Kristin Hallam in the first game of the Colonial Athletic Association Championships at Veterans Memorial Park on the campus of James Madison. Hofstra advances to play the winner of James Madison vs. UNCW on Thursday at noon.
Hallam extended her hitting streak to 15 games, finishing 2-for-4 on the day, including the game-winning hit. Patierno was also 2-for-4, plating the tying run and having a strong defensive outing.
Hofstra loaded the bases down 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh with no outs, with Hallam getting hit by a pitch to lead off, Pietrafesa singling into left field, and Allocca walking. Cleanup hitter
Sarah Edwards dropped a base hit into right field to bring home a run. Junior
Nikki Michalowski lined out to third base, but an error on the throw allowed Allocca to come home. With two outs, Clark walked to put runners on the corners. Patierno then doubled to the left-field wall to bring in the tying run and force extra innings, with the Cougars getting the final out in a rundown between third and home.
Charleston scored early in the game, putting up three runs in the first inning and tacking on another in the second, with the Pride holding the Cougars scoreless through the remaining eight innings.

Megan Patierno hit back-to-back singles into left field in the bottom of the second. Junior
Kaitlyne Musa reached on a fielder's choice, putting runners on the corners. Freshman
Sam Tomasetti used a sacrifice fly to bring Clark home and get the Pride on the board.
Freshman pitcher
Alyssa Irons pitched a clean top of the fourth. After Hofstra allowed two runners on with no outs in the top of the fifth, Patierno turned a double play, stepping on the bag at third before firing over to first. Freshman
Sarah Cornell stepped in to relieve Irons, and got the next batter to ground out to end the inning, stranding two.
After Hofstra had evened the score in the seventh, Cornell struck out the first batter she faced in the top of the eighth, holding the Cougars off the board and facing just four batters.
Musa walked in the Pride's half of the inning and moved to second on a sac bunt from Tomasetti. Hallam took her base on balls as well, putting runners at first and second, but a pair of fly outs ended the inning.
Charleston had runners on first and second in the top of the ninth with two outs, but Cornell fanned pinch-hitter Lexee Emanuel to get out unscathed. The Cougars loaded the bases with two outs in the tenth, but a foul out to Allocca at first base ended the inning still knotted at four.
Musa led off the bottom of the tenth sending a ball deep to the center-field wall, reaching second on an error by the center fielder. Freshman
Alexis Goeke stepped in to pinch run for Musa, moving to third on a ground out. Hallam then slapped a hit to shortstop to bring Goeke home for the win.
The Pride earned a spot in the winners' bracket, avoiding playing a second game on Wednesday and advancing to the play the winner of James Madison vs. UNCW at noon on Thursday.
