SB: Hofstra Drops Final Game of Series At Longwood

Farmville, Va. – Hofstra Softball dropped the third game of the series at Longwood, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon. The Pride dropped to 7-6 with the loss.

Longwood (6-10) scored the game's only runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, on a Krista Kelly home run after Karleigh Donovan had doubled.

Freshman pitcher Sarah Cornell (6-1) suffered her first loss of the season, despite striking out six in 5.0 innings. She pitched 1-2-3 innings in the first and third and finished allowing four hits and walking three.

Sydney Gay picked up the win for Longwood, striking out seven and allowing two hits in 7.0 innings pitched.

Junior Brittany Allocca led off the second inning with a single, and senior Lacey Clark's sacrifice bunt advanced Allocca to second, but the Lancers got two quick outs to end the inning.

Senior Jessica Peslak stepped in to pitch in the bottom of the sixth after a pair of singles put runners on first and second for Longwood. Kelly popped up for the first out before junior Megan Patierno got the next out at third and threw to Allocca at first for the double play.

Patierno singled to right field in the top of the seventh. After two quick outs, Edwards walked for runners on first and second, but Longwood got the third out to seal the win.

The Pride heads to the Oregon Duck Invitational next weekend for games against Pacific, Idaho State and No. 4 Oregon.
