WTEN: Hofstra Falls To FDU In Spring Opener

Oceanside, NY - Carmen Pestano and Disha Yellayi picked up victories for the Pride, but Fairleigh Dickinson won the other four singles matches and the doubles point in a 5-2 victory over Hofstra Friday night at Point Set Indoor in Oceanside. Hofstra suffered its first loss of the year, slipping to 3-1. The Knights won their first dual match of the season, improving to 1-0.

The Knights swept doubles to take a 1-0 lead and then went up by a 5-0 count after winning the first three completed singles matches at third, second, first and fifth singles. Yellayi got the Pride on the board with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Patricia Eftenoiu at the sixth flight, while Pestano won a three-set match over Liza Rachenko at fourth singles, 3-6, 6-3, 10-4.

Hofstra is back in action Saturday when it hosts Marist at Sportime in Bethpage, New York. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
