Auburn, Ala. – The Hofstra Women's Soccer team fell to Auburn, 1-0, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday night at Auburn Soccer Complex.

The Pride finished the season 15-4-2 with the loss to the Tigers marking the Pride's first defeat since Sept. 4. Auburn improved to 8-6-5 and advanced to play the winner of No. 1 Stanford versus Utah Valley.

The Tigers scored the difference-maker with 26:06 remaining in the second half, with Bri Folds bending her shot into the top left corner of the net from the top of the box.

Senior Kristin Desmond nearly scored midway through the first half, chipping the ball past Auburn goalkeeper Sarah Le Beau and shooting on the empty net, but an Auburn defender got back in time, stopping the ball on the goal line.

Freshman Lucy Porter had a chance early in the second half, with her uncontested shot being tipped over the crossbar by Le Beau. Desmond had an opportunity of her own just a moment later, with Le Beau making the short-side save to keep the game scoreless. Le Beau made another sprawling save on senior Katie Gerdes' attempt to equalize from about 25 yards out in the latter half of the second frame.

The Hofstra goalkeeping tandem of Jenna Borresen and Ashley Wilson teamed up to make five saves, with Wilson making an acrobatic stop in the second half to keep Auburn from doubling its lead.

The Pride had a hallmark season, posting a 12-game win streak heading into the NCAA Tournament, including a 9-0 mark in Colonial Athletic Association play and going on to win the CAA Championship.
