WTEN: Hofstra Wins Dual Opener Over Fairfield

Box Score Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University Women's Tennis team received several stellar performances in a 6-1 win over visiting Fairfield Saturday afternoon at the Hofstra Outdoor Tennis Center. The Pride won five of the six singles flights, all in straight sets, and took all three doubles flights as well.

Hofstra, playing its first dual match of the season, moved to 1-0 on the year. The Stags (2-1) suffered their first loss of the year after opening the 2017-18 campaign with a pair of victories.

Jasmine King and Odessa Stork got things started with a 6-2 win over Diana Prinos and Meghan Zimmer at No. 3 doubles. Sarah Catherine Herndon and Disha Yellayi followed suit with a win at the No. 2 flight over Emily Lombardi and Jessica Pil. That clinched the doubles point for the Pride, but Michal Kaplan and Alejandra Ruffini completed the sweep with a 7-5 win at No. 1 over Anna Komer and Sarah Stuhlmann.

King started singles with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Lombardi at the No. 3 flight, while Herndon posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Komer at No. 4. Kaplan sealed the match win with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Stuhlmann at the top flight. Ruffini (No. 2) and Yellayi (No. 6) also had straight set wins for the Pride.

Hofstra is back in action this Wednesday at the ITA Northeast Regional. Ruffini (qualifying singles), Kaplan (main draw singles) and Herndon and Yellayi (main draw doubles) will represent the Pride at the tournament in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
