Jake Kaminsky recorded two wins on the day as the Hofstra Pride Wrestling team split two matches at the Clarion Duals at the Tipping Gymnasium Sunday afternoon. The Pride (5-4) posted a 42-0 victory over the Hilltoppers of West Liberty (1-8) in the first contest before dropping a 28-5 decision to the host Golden Eagles of Clarion (2-6) in the nightcap.
Kaminsky, who recorded three victories over the weekend including a win at Sacred Heart Friday night, tallied a 12-5 decision at 157 over West Liberty's DeMadre Turner in the first match of the day before defeating Clarion's Taylor Cahill in the second match, 4-2 in the second sudden victory period.
In the first match of the day for the Pride, Hofstra rolled to the shutout of the Hilltoppers of West Liberty. Sophomore
Omar Haddad recorded his third pin of the season at 285 and classmate
Bobby Fehr added his first tech fall of the year at 165 to pace the Pride. Red-shirt sophomore
Connor Muli also posted a bonus point win with a 9-1 major decision at 149. The Hilltoppers also forfeited matches at both 141 and 174 pounds. It was Hofstra's third consecutive dual match victory as the Pride improved to 5-3 on the season.
In the second match against the Golden Eagles of Clarion, the Pride stumbled out of the gate, dropping a major decision at 125, a 10-5 decision at 133 and a 22-7 tech fall at 141 for a 12-0 deficit. Hofstra sophomore
Ryan Burkert stopped the run with a 2-0 win in sudden victory over Clarion's Jake Keller to cut the deficit to 12-2 as the Pride was assessed a team penalty point.
Kaminsky followed with the 4-2 victory in the second sudden victory period after regulation ended at 1-1 and the first sudden victory period ended at 2-2. But it was all Clarion the rest of the way as the Golden Eagles posted four decisions and a major decision win in the final five matches for the victory.
The Pride will return to action next Saturday, January 21 when they host the Black Knights of Army West Point at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center. Match time is 1 p.m.
