SB: Hofstra Uses Fifth-Inning Rally To Defeat Seton Hall

Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra scored six runs and sent 11 batters to the plate in the fifth inning to power a come-from-behind 8-4 victory over Seton Hall in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon at Bill Edwards Stadium.

Junior Christie Sinacori hit a two-run pinch hit single and junior second baseman Lacey Clark went 2-for-4, scored twice and drove in a run to help Hofstra improve to 17-14. Junior Jessica Peslak held Seton Hall (19-18) to five hits in a complete-game effort. The right-hander struck out five and threw 114 pitches in improving to 12-6.

The Pride took the 1-0 lead in the first against Seton Hall starter Chris Head when sophomore outfielder Brielle Pietrafesa drew a bases-loaded walk to score senior outfielder Caryn Bailey, who batted leadoff and started the frame by driving a single up the middle.

Seton Hall's Destini Peck's two-run single in the second put the Pirates ahead before senior outfielder Chloe Fitzgerald's infield single drove in Clark for the tying run. Fitzgerald registered her season's second RBI.

Head hit a leadoff home run in the fourth to give the Pirates a one-run lead before the Pride rallied for six runs and four hits in the fifth to irrevocably swing momentum. Eight batters reached safely in the inning after Hand retired the leadoff batter. Senior third baseman Kim Smith singled before sophomore catcher Brittany Allocca and junior shortstop Michaela Transue walked. Seton Hall brought in reliever Madison Strunk and Hofstra turned to Sinacori for the pinch-hitting opportunity.

Sinacori hit a long fly to center that scored two and marked her first two RBIs of 2016. A fielding error on freshman designated player Madison Ambush's ground out  brought in another run and Clark singled home Hofstra's fourth run. Bailey helped Hofstra bat around by singling home Clark and sophomore Isabel Hansbury hit a pinch hit sacrifice fly to cap the rally and put Hofstra ahead, 8-3.

Hand returned to pitch the sixth. She was charged with the loss in dropping to 2-3. Peslak recorded her campaign's ninth complete game to close out the victory.
Bailey extended her on-base streak to 22 games and her hitting streak to five.

Hofstra will resume Colonial Athletic Association play with a three-game weekend road series at Elon. Saturday's doubleheader will start at 1 p.m.
