SB: Transue Named CAA Player Of The Week

Hempstead, N.Y. – Junior shortstop Michaela Transue became the first Hofstra player to earn a Colonial Athletic Association weekly award this season when she was named the Player of the Week for the period ending March 21.

Transue hit .818 in Hofstra's four-game week, going 9-for-11 with five runs scored, two home runs, nine RBIs and four total extra-base hits. Transue worked five walks against just one strikeout, meaning she reached base safely in 14-of-16 plate appearances.

The third-year infielder slugged 1.636 and collected 18 total bases. She entered Saturday's doubleheader against Penn State with eight RBIs through her first 20 games before needing just two games to reach that total in logging eight RBIs in a sweep over the Nittany Lions. Transue went 6-for-6 with three walks in the two games combined, reaching safely in all nine plate appearances.

The Chenango Forks, New York native is hitting a team-leading .373 this season with four home runs, 16 RBIs and a .695 slugging percentage. She has reached base in more than half of her plate appearances with a .513 percentage while scoring 20 runs.

UNCW's Peyton Jordan was named the league's Pitcher of the Week and Towson's Bailey Boyd was the Rookie of the Week.

Hofstra will continue an 11-game road swing this week when the Pride goes to Rutgers for a single game Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Pride will then open CAA play with a three-game weekend road series at Towson starting Saturday at noon in a doubleheader against the Tigers.
