Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Men's Basketball team will hit the road on Sunday as the Pride will face James Madison in a game that will be televised in the New York market by SNY.
Tip-off will be at 3 p.m. from the JMU Convocation Center.
The game will be available in several other markets as well – including: CSN-MA, CSN-P, CSN-CA and CSN-NW. Al Koken and John Feinstein will have the call.
There will also be Pride Productions live video of the game (via JMU) with links available on this page or via the men's basketball schedule page at GoHofstra.com. The Pride Productions audio only broadcast can also be heard via the portal and the WRHU mobile app. Mark Weiner and Tiffany Vellis will be on the call for the audio only broadcast.
The game will pit two of the top teams in the Colonial Athletic Association against each other as Hofstra brings a 16-7 overall mark and an 8-3 conference record into the game, while James Madison is 17-7 and 7-4 in league play. The Pride is tied for second in the league with William & Mary and James Madison is in fourth and knotted with Towson in the standings.
Hofstra has won four of its last five games, but dropped a tough 70-67 decision at home to UNCW on Thursday night. Senior guard
Juan'ya Green posted a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore center
Rokas Gustys tallied a career-high 21 rebounds, along with nine points, four assists and four blocks. It marked the most rebounds in a game for a Hofstra player since John Irving also had 21 in a game during the 1976-77 season.
Green leads Hofstra in scoring at 17.8 points per game, while also posting a team-best 6.7 assists per outing. Gustys is the team's top rebounder with an impressive 11.5 per game and is also averaging 12.8 points per game to rank third on the squad in that category.
Green is approaching a very unique milestone as he is 10 points shy of 1,000 for his career at Hofstra and when he reaches that total he will become only the fourth player to ever score at least 1,000 points at two different NCAA Division I institutions. Green scored 1,131 points during his two seasons at Niagara and currently has 990 at Hofstra.
James Madison won it last game, a 78-56 win over Drexel on Thursday. Ron Curry led the way with 16 points, while Yohanny Dalembert posted 15 points and 12 rebounds in 20 minutes. Curry leads the Dukes with 16.2 points per game, while Shakir Brown is averaging 12.3 points per game to rank second. Dalembert is the top rebounder on the team with 6.8 per contest.
Sunday's game will mark the 26th all-time meeting between the teams – in a series that began when Hofstra joined the Colonial Athletic Association beginning with the 2001-02 campaign. Hofstra leads the series, 15-10, but JMU won this season's first meeting. James Madison won both regular season meetings a season ago before the Pride defeated the Dukes in the CAA Tournament quarterfinals. Interesting enough – James Madison won the first four meetings in the series before Hofstra won the next 12 contests between the programs.
