SB: Hofstra Topples Bradley To End Unconquered Invitational

Tallahassee, Fla. – Junior pitcher Jessica Peslak threw a complete game in holding Bradley to six hits as Hofstra defeated Bradley, 3-2, in the finale of the Unconquered Invitational on Sunday morning at Joanne Graf Field.

Sophomore Isabel Hansbury lined a RBI hit in her first collegiate plate appearance while Lacey Clark and Brielle Pietrafesa also drove in runs to help Hofstra improve to 8-7 overall. The Pride end the tournament on Florida State's campus 2-3.

Peslak struck out two in logging her fourth complete game this season. The right-hander improved to 5-4 and leads the team in victories. Hofstra bested Bradley twice in the tournament. Alyson Clemente dove in both runs for the Braves (4-11).

Clemente put Bradley on the scoreboard first. Her sacrifice fly in the top of the first brought home Kelly Kap. The score remained that way until the bottom of the fourth when Hofstra broke through against Bradley starter Julie Kestas.

Hofstra scored first thanks to Hansbury's stellar collegiate debut. After sitting out the 2015 season with an injury, Hansbury pinch hit in the fourth with two outs and senior Alyssa Cuzzola on second following a walk and a stolen base.

Hansbury, in her first collegiate time at bat, lined a RBI single up the middle to tie the score. The Pride took the lead in the fifth when senior outfielder Caryn Bailey doubled and sophomore catcher Brittany Allocca singled to chase Kestas (1-7). Reliever Jaelen Hull hit the first batter she faced to load the bases and Clark capitalized by hitting a sacrifice fly to center. Pietrafesa continued the small-ball strategy by pushing a squeeze bunt to first to score a run on the sacrifice for a 3-1 Hofstra lead.

Clemente's one-out solo home run in the sixth brought the Braves within 3-2. Clemente's fourth home run of the season came off a 1-1 pitch. Peslak settled down and force a pop out. The Braves put the potential tying run on base when Caitlyn McCarron singled to left, but Peslak struck out Taylor Willhalm to end the threat.

Peslak retired the first two batters in the seventh and stranded another potential tying run when Kelly Kapp reached on a bunt single to third. Peslak responded by getting Kendall Duffy to fly out to left.

Hofstra will be back in action on March 12 when the Pride opens the home schedule against St. John's and Connecticut.
