VB: Hofstra Moves To 2-0 Following 3-1 Win Over Kent State

College Park, MD – Junior outside hitter Veronika Kostova (16) and sophomore middle blocker Leticia Valente (11) combined for 27 kills and junior setter Hannah Klemm totaled 40 assists, eight digs and three blocks to lead the Hofstra Volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Kent State at the Maryland Invitational.

Set scores were 18-25, 25-9, 25-22 and 25-23.

Hofstra moves to 2-0 to start the 2015 season, while Kent State falls to 1-1.

Kent State opened up an early 1-0 lead in the contest as they won the first set, holding the Pride a negative .069 hitting percentage.

Hofstra quickly responded, though, and the Pride clicked offensively in the second stanza to the tune of a .423 attack percentage en route to the dominating 16-point win.

The Pride would never trail in the third set as they narrowly escaped with a three-point win.

In what turned out to be the final set of the match, Hofstra and Kent State battled back and forth with the Pride breaking a late 22-all tie with two straight points. After Kent State closed to within 24-23, a kill from Kostova ended the match and gave the Pride its second straight 3-1 victory.

Hofstra returns to action on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. when it takes on Maryland in day two action at the Maryland Invitational. The Pride will also face Morgan State on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
