WTEN: Hofstra Cruises To Seventh Straight Win

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Pride Women's Tennis team extended its winning streak to seven matches Wednesday with a 6-1 victory over visiting La Salle at the Hofstra Outdoor Tennis Center.

The Pride improved to 11-1 on the season with the win. La Salle dropped to 0-5 with the loss.

The Pride captured both doubles matches to earn the point as Sarah Bowen and Louise Lopez teamed together for an 8-1 win at first doubles over Celesta Smith and Alexandra Santerelli. Bianca Derrick and Bianca Posa then posted an 8-3 win over Jade Smith and Caitlin Coelho.

In singles action, the Pride posted straight set wins in the first five flights before defaulting at sixth singles as Carmen Pestano was unable to compete. Bowen won at first singles, 6-0, 6-2, over Coelho. Lopez downed Smith by scores of 6-2, 6-2 at second singles. Giulia Leone moved up to the third flight and picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Santerelli. Derrick, playing at fourth singles, posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Jade Smith, while Posa topped Jayla Smith, 6-0, 6-4, at fifth singles.

Hofstra returns to action Saturday morning when it hosts UMBC at 10 a.m.
