Phoenix, AZ - Evan Evanko held the Pride to four hits and two runs over six innings and the Antelopes offense collected 14 hits on the afternoon to post a 9-2 win over the Pride Sunday at Brazell Stadium. The win gave Grand Canyon the series win, three games to one.
Hofstra slipped to 1-3 with the loss, while Grand Canyon evens its mark at 4-4 with the win.
The Antelopes put up a run in the first and two in the second to take a 3-0 lead. Matt Haggerty had a run-scoring ground out in the first, while Humberto Aranda and David Walker delivered RBI hits in the third. After a scoreless third, Grand Canyon put up two more runs in the fourth as Aranda tripled in one and Josh Ethier singled in the second.
Grand Canyon would extend the lead to 8-0 with a three-run fifth before the Pride got two runs in the sixth. Freshman Brad Witkowski led off with a walk, junior Eric Ferguson singled and senior Kenny Jackson reached on an infield single to load the bases. Senior Dalton Rouleau hit a sacrifice fly to plate the first run and two batters later, Brian MacDonald singled to send Ferguson home with the second run.
But that was all the offense the Pride would muster against Evanko and relievers Kyle Detwiler and Trent Wilson limited Hofstra to one hit over the final three innings.
Senior Chris Harkey took the loss for the Pride, falling to 0-1. The right-hander allowed seven hits and five runs in 3 1/3 innings. Jackson had two of Hofstra's five hits in the game.
