Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University Head Men's Cross Country Coach Pete Alfano has announced that senior-to-be Daniel Rono has been named team captain for the 2013 season this fall.

“I am proud to announce Daniel Rono as the captain of the 2013 Hofstra Men's Cross Country team,” Alfano said. “Daniel is going into his senior year with us and has achieved All-Metropolitan and All-ICAAAA honors. He has the fastest recorded 8K time in school history, and has been the closest to ALL-CAA as anybody who has ever run for the Pride has been.”

Rono, a native of Eldoret, Kenya, was red-shirted in 2012. In 2011, he ran in six meets posting an 8K-best time of 25:53 to place 14th at the CAA Championships and a 10K-best time of 32:59 to finish 71st at the NCAA regional. In 2010, Rono ran in nine meets and recorded an 8K-best time and school-record of 25:02 to place 14th at the CAA Championships and a 10K-best time of 32:18 to place 108th at the NCAA Regional. He came to Hofstra in 2010 after one year at New York Institute of Technology. Rono captured the 5K Hofstra Invitational in 15:37 in his first collegiate race. He finished first in 25:26 at the 8K NYIT Running of the Bears Meet.

“Daniel's experience in this sport will most definitely prove instrumental in the young team that we have lined up for the 2013 season,” Alfano said.
