Hofstra University Head Football Coach Dave Cohen today announced his 2009 recruiting class which consists of 17 high school student-athletes who signed national letters of intent to attend the University this fall as well as three junior college transfers, who arrived on campus last week for the spring semester.
"I think the staff did a great job of putting forth our best collection of big man signees," Cohen stated. "On the offensive line, we have two local products in 6'7 Anthony Dima from Centereach High School and 6'6 Matt McBride from Holy Trinity, and added four on the defensive line in 6'4 Steve Medard from Amityville Memorial, 6'2 Andrew Smith from Riverhead High School, 6'3 Jamari Miller from South Plainfield, New Jersey and 6'2 Navarus Thompson from West Palm Beach, Florida.
Cohen was pleased about picking up another special award winner from Long Island as Riverhead's Miguel Maysonet is the second consecutive New York State Player of the Year award winner for the Pride. Last season William Floyd running back Brock Jackolski captured the honor and had an outstanding freshman season for the Pride in 2008. The Pride lost 10 seniors and two grad-students to graduation from the 2008 team.
Hofstra begins its 15-session spring drills on Wednesday, March 18, culminating with the Blue-Gold Spring Game on Saturday, April 25 at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium on the North campus. The summer preseason training camp begins on August 10 with the Pride kicking off the 2009 season at home on Saturday, night, September 5 against Long Island-rival Stony Brook University.
