The Hofstra Women's Tennis team dropped only nine games total in the five completed singles matches en route to a 6-0 victory over Hartford on Thursday afternoon at the Hartford Tennis Courts in West Hartford, Connecticut.
Still undefeated to start the 2008-09 campaign, the Pride improves to 3-0 this season a year after finishing with a 14-10 overall record. Hartford, meanwhile, slips to 0-3 this year.
Hofstra got a pair of 6-0, 6-1 wins in singles as sophomore Christie Gattelaro defeated Kara Pease at second singles and freshman Brooke Sailer rolled past Katie Greenberg.
It total team points this season, Hofstra has now outscored its opponent 19-1 as they have a 7-0 win over Manhattan to their record, along with a 6-1 win over Fairleigh Dickinson.
Sophomore Lauren Clifton, who earned a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Kasey Michels at first singles, teamed with Samantha Sharifi at third doubles for an 8-0 shutout to get the match started in the Pride's favor. Sophomore Morganne Downing and Sailer added a 8-3 win at second doubles, with Gattelaro and senior Stacey Kent notching an 8-4 win at first doubles to complete the doubles sweep.
Hofstra will look to continue its solid play to start the season tomorrow when they travel to Rhode Island for a 3 p.m. match against the Rams.
