HOFSTRA SIGNS 15 TO NATIONAL LETTERS OF INTENT

2/7/2007 2:00:00 PM

Hofstra University Head Football Coach Dave Cohen today announced that 15 student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to attend the University and play football this fall.

"There are three things that I am excited about with this recruiting class," said Cohen. "The first is addressing our biggest areas of concern, which are adding quality, competition and depth at quarterback and on the offensive line. We did that with the signing of junior college quarterbacks Corey Christopher from Nassau (NY) Community College and Bryan Savage from Coffeyville (KS) Community College. On the offensive line position, we signed three players including two mid-year players in Derek Moore from Fork Union and Josh Weigel from Coffeyville CC."

"The second thing that pleases me is that we recruited the local area very well," the second-year mentor said. "We have signed six student-athletes from within 20 miles of our campus. Last, but certainly not least, I am excited that we are continuing the great relationship that Hofstra has enjoyed with Nassau Community College and coach John Anselmo. We have added our third and fourth players from Nassau in the last two years.

The Pride begin the 15-session spring drills on March 23 culminating in the Blue-Gold Spring scrimmage on April 28. The summer preseason training camp begins on August 11 with the Pride kicking off the 2007 season against Furman University at Shuart Stadium on Saturday night, September 8.
