HOFSTRA WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT WITH 6-1 WIN OVER QUINNIPIAC

4/12/2005 9:00:00 PM

Hofstra continued its strong play of late, winning for the fourth straight time and the fifth time in its last six matches, as they rolled past Quinnipiac, 6-1, on Tuesday afternoon in Hamden, Connecticut.

The Pride improves to 9-5 with the win, and has just four regular season matches remaining before the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship.  The Bobcats fall to 10-5 with the loss, snapping a three-match win streak.

Hofstra used an 8-4 win from Andy Cha and Robert Sforzo at third doubles to get on the board first before Nikola and Luka Djordjevic teamed up at first doubles for an 8-6 win over Andrew Chan and Mike Racioppo of Quinnipiac to give Hofstra the early 1-0 advantage in the match by virtue of winning two doubles matches.

The doubles win for the Djordjevic's was their sixth straight and eighth in their last nine matches together this spring.

The Pride made quick work of the Bobcats in singles, as they won five of the six matches in straight sets to notch a 6-1 win.  Hofstra would only drop the match at second singles, with both N. Djordjevic and Tal Alexander dropping four or less games total in their singles matches at first and fourth singles respectively.  Alexander had the best day for the Pride at singles, winning 6-0, 6-3 over Jonathan Russo at fourth singles.

With a little over a week before the CAA Championship begins next Thursday, April 21 in Norfolk, Virginia, the Pride will use its final four regular season matches to tune up for the tournament.  All four remaining matches are home matches, beginning with Thursday's tilt with George Mason which will start at 2 p.m.
