Hempstead, N.Y. – Hofstra junior forward Leah Galton was named the GoHofstra.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Oct. 19.
Galton compiled five points in Hofstra’s 1-0-1 week, scoring in both games as the Pride bested the College of Charleston, 5-0, and played UNCW to a 2-all tie. Galton is second on the team with nine goals, which trails only Sam Scolarici’s Colonial Athletic Association-leading 14 tallies.
Against CofC, Galton assisted on senior Amber Stobbs’ game-opening goal in the sixth minute and added an unassisted goal just 1:03 later. Two days later at UNCW, Galton scored in the 64th minute by again creating her own shot. Her ninth goal, off her own rebound, put Hofstra ahead, 2-1, before UNCW came back to tie the game less than two minutes later.
Galton has 21 points in 16 games, helping Hofstra to a 9-6-1 start and a 4-2-1 record in league action. She has registered 41 shots. The Harrogate, England native was the 2013 CAA Player of the Year and has been the league’s preseason Player of the Year in the last two seasons.
Hofstra will conclude the regular season with two home games in three days, beginning on Friday with a 7 p.m. game versus Drexel.
