Hofstra’s Dream Season Concludes in NCAA Norman Regional

Norman, OK – The 2023 season of Hofstra softball came to an end at the NCAA Division I Softball Championship with a defeat to California in the elimination game of the Norman Regional. The Pride ends its season with a 29-27 record after its 7-0 loss to the Golden Bears (34-20-1).
 
California got on the board in the second inning before adding another three runs off back-to-back home runs in the third to lead the Pride, 4-0. California added another two runs with a home run in the sixth, and they plated a seventh run in the seventh inning.
 
Aliya Catanzarita and Alanna Morse each recorded two of Hofstra's seven hits against the Golden Bears, and Chelsea Manto, Angelina Ioppolo, and Becca Vaillancourt each recorded one hit. Anna Butler struck out a career-high four batters in 4.1 innings of relief. Julia Apsel got the start in the circle and pitched 2.2 innings.
 
NOTES:
-Giordano's 15 home runs places her fifth for the most home runs in a season in Hofstra softball history, and her 48 RBIs places her tied for eighth in a season in program history.
-Collins and Giordano both drew 33 walks to tie for the third-most walks in a season.
-Manto finishes 2023 with 27 stolen bases, the most in the CAA this season and third-most in a season in program history. She is 11 stolen bases away from setting a new career program record.
-Hofstra turned two double plays in a game for the third time this season.
-Hofstra is now 0-4 all-time against California. This was Hofstra's first game against the Golden Bears since the Hawaii Invitational in 2002.
