Hofstra Falls At Navy

Annapolis, MD - Hofstra picked up wins in four weight classes with Joe McGinty (157), Ross McFarland (174), Jacob Ferreira (184), and Trey Rogers (197) getting their hands raised. However, Navy jumped out to a 15-0 lead after the first four matches, and went on to a 21-12 victory over the Pride in an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association match at Dahlgren Hall.

Hofstra slipped to 2-4 overall and 1-4 in EIWA action with the loss. Navy improved to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in league matches.

The Midshipmen started the match with a victory by fall at 125 pounds by Dayton DelViscio over Jacob Moon to take a 6-0 lead. Hofstra's Chase Liardi battled No. 31 Brendan Ferretti tough at 133 pounds, losing a 1-0 decision. Justin Hoyle also put in a strong effort against 30th-ranked Josh Koderhandt before dropping a 10-6 decision in sudden victory at 141 pounds. Kaemen Smith ended the Navy run with a 10-5 decision over Michael Leandrou at 149 pounds.

McGinty put Hofstra on the board with an 8-3 decision over Devon Deem at 157 pounds to make the score 15-3. Navy picked up a win at 165 pounds as Val Park scored an 8-2 win over Matt Rogers. Ross McFarland started a three-bout win streak for the Pride with a 7-3 decision over Sammy Starr at 174 pounds. Ferreira, ranked 24th in the nation, posted a 10-5 win over No. 32 David Key at 184 pounds, and No. 30 Trey Rogers followed with a 6-3 win over Jake Lucas to make it an 18-12 match. Navy's Grady Griess, ranked 20th, dashed any hopes of a Hofstra comeback with a 6-0 win over Zachary Knighton-Ward at 285 pounds.

Hofstra returns to action Friday night at 6 p.m. when it hosts George Mason at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.

-Hofstra is 0-8 all-time against Navy
-Trey Rogers has won five consecutive matches.
-Ferreira picked up his team-best 16th win of the season and his first against a ranked opponent.
