Kissimmee, FL –
Ryan Rue threw six innings of six-hit, two-run ball for his first career victory and the Hofstra offense erupted for 14 runs on 15 hits as the Pride posted a 14-9 win over Saint Peter's at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at Osceola County Stadium.
Hofstra snapped a four-game winning streak with the win. Saint Peter's fell to 0-6 with the loss.
The Pride jumped out to a 10-2 lead after four innings, scoring a run in the first, five in the second, and four in the fourth.
Vito Friscia had an RBI single in the first and drove in another run in the second on a bases loaded walk.
Parker Quinn delivered the big hit in the second inning, a two-run single. In the fourth inning,
Rob Weissheier and
Anthony D'Onofrio each had RBI singles.
Hofstra added three runs in the sixth with
Austin Gauthier driving in two with a ground rule double. D'Onofrio also added an RBI single in the frame.
Daniel Page's RBI single in the seventh capped the scoring for the Pride.
Saint Peter's touched up the Hofstra bullpen for seven runs in the seventh, though just three were earned.
Rue had five strikeouts in his outing and evened his record at 1-1.
Steven Boscia pitched the seventh and
Mike Murray came on and three two scoreless innings to close out the contest.
D'Onofrio finished the day 4-5 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs. Gauthier, Quinn and Weissheier each had two-hit games. The three, along with Friscia, each had two-RBI games.
Ryan Wappaus (0-1) took the loss for the Peacocks, allowing six runs on six hits in 1 2/3 innings.
Hofstra closes out the RussMatt Invitational Sunday against Butler in Sanford, Florida. Game time is at 12 p.m.
