WXC: Hofstra Women Head To Buffalo For The NCAA Regionals Friday

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Women's Cross Country team heads back to frosty Western New York Friday to compete in the 2019 NCAA Division I Northeast Regional Cross Country Championship at the Audubon Golf Course in Amherst, New York. The women's 6K race begins at 11 a.m.

The University at Buffalo, the host of the men's and women's regional, will provide live results through Leone Timing with links on this page as well as on the schedule page of GoHofstra.com. FloSports will provide streaming video of the 2019 NCAA Division I Northeast Regional Cross Country Championship through FloTrack. Fans who have purchased a FloSports subscription for other sports, like CAA Sports on FloSports, will also be able to access the NCAA Cross Country Regional on FloTrack.

Hofstra is expected to run send five runners to this year's NCAA Regional Championship as junior Megan Boese, sophomore Sophia Masciarelli and freshmen Jordyn McDonnell, Kayla Stadeker and Leah Gath will compete.

 

The Pride women are coming off an eighth-place finish at the 2019 Colonial Athletic Association Championship in New Market, Virginia on November 2. McDonnell placed 19th in a season-best 6K time of 21:44 to lead the Pride for the third time this season. Masciarelli was the second Hofstra finisher, placing 33rd in a season-best 22:06.4. Gath finished 64th in another season-best 23:15.4 while Stadeker was 75th in a season-best 24:31.2. Junior Megan Boese was the Pride's final scoring runner, finishing 83rd in 25:34.3.


As a team, the Pride finished with 218 points. Elon, behind Scolasticah Kermei's first-place finish in 20:23.7, broke William and Mary's and James Madison's 29-year stronghold on the team title by placing their five scoring runners in the top 21 to finish with 41 points. The Tribe has won 21 titles while JMU has grabbed eight conference titles since 1990. Delaware finished second with 62 points, William and Mary was third with 68 points and James Madison was fourth with 127 points. Towson (132), Northeastern (142), Charleston (162), Hofstra (218) and UNCW (242) complete the team standings.

 

Last year at the NCAA Regionals, Masciarelli placed 87th to lead the Pride to a 30th-place finish on the same course that Hofstra will be running on Friday. Masciarelli clocked a time of 23:30.5. Megan Boese placed 235th in 27:32.2. As a team, Hofstra placed 30th with 906 points in the 35-team field. Columbia took the team title with 41 points with Dartmouth coming in second with 88 points and Yale finishing third with 94 points. Syracuse's Shannon Malone was the individual medalist in 21:28.
