Harrisonburg, VA - Hofstra University junior catcher Matt Reistetter was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association first team it was announced this evening at the league's annual awards banquet on the eve of the 2013 CAA Baseball Championship.
Reistetter earns his third consecutive all-conference selection, but his initial first team selection. In 2012 he was a second team pick and in 2011 he was named to the All-CAA third team.
The Hauppauge, New York, native led the Pride in batting in 2013 with a .326 average. The junior started 47 of Hofstra's 53 games and posted 58 hits, 10 doubles, one triple, two home runs, 25 runs and 34 RBIs. He also added six stolen bases. He set career-highs in batting, hits, doubles, home runs, RBIs and steals. Defensively, he posted a .986 fielding percentage and threw out nearly 40 percent of would-be base stealers (17 of 43).
Reistetter was a nominee for the Johnny Bench Award, which is awarded to the top catcher in Division I, as well as the Gregg Olson Award, which is presented to the Breakout Player of the Year in college baseball. He was also named the CAA Player of the Week on April 1 after batting .556 (10-18) with a double, triple, home run, seven runs and eight RBIs in five games, all Hofstra wins.
Hofstra finished the 2013 season with a 26-27 record and missed out on the sixth and final spot in the CAA Championship by percentage points.
Other top honors went to Towson senior catcher Andrew Parker as the CAA Defensive Player of the Year and Georgia State freshman outfielder Josh Merrigan as the CAA Rookie of the Year. William & Mary's Jamie Pinzino and UNCW's Mark Scalf were named the CAA Co-Coaches of the Year.
