Hempstead, NY -
Hofstra University Head Wrestling Coach Rob Anspach today announced that
two-time Illinois High School champion Joey Gosinski has signed a National
Letter of Intent to attend the University this fall.
Gosinski, a native of Carol Stream, Illinois, wrestled for four years and
played two seasons of football at Glenbard High School. He captured Illinois
titles at 125 pounds in 2010 and at 130 pounds in 2011. He is projected to fill
the void at 133 pounds left by the graduation of All-American Lou Ruggirello.
Gosinski posted a 49-2 record last season for the Glenbard Panthers, who
captured the Illinois State team championship after third place finishes in
both 2009 and 2010. As a junior in 2009-10, he recorded a 52-0 mark to capture
his first State title. Gosinski was also a state qualifier in 2009 at 119
pounds and tallied a 40-10 record. He also posted a 42-12 record as a freshman
in 2008 and placed sixth at 103 pounds. Gosinski also placed fifth at the Fargo
Nationals in 2010.
"We are excited about signing Joey to a NLI to attend Hofstra next season,"
Anspach said. "As a two-time Illinois champion who has been exposed to some
great competition, we believe that he has the talent to step in and make an
immediate impact for the Pride."
The Hofstra Wrestling
team is coming off 14-4-1 season and its 10th conference championship in the
past 11 seasons in 2010-11. The Pride had four Colonial Athletic Association
champions and sent seven wrestlers to the NCAA Championships where Ruggirello
and senior-to-be P.J. Gillespie earned All-America honors.
