Hofstra University wrestler Paul Siemon, who was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Wrestling Scholar-Athlete of the Year last month, added two more academic awards to his trophy case recently.
Siemon, who graduated from Hofstra with a degree in sociology on May 22, was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic At-Large All-District second team, and the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division I All-Academic Team.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic At-Large All-District Team included outstanding student-athletes from 15 sports including women's bowling, women's crew, men's volleyball, golf, rifle, gymnastics, skiing, water polo, fencing, ice hockey, swimming, women's field hockey, lacrosse and tennis. All nominees had to possess a 3.2 or better grade point average. The NWCA Division I All-Academic Team included 20 NCAA All-Americans and 55 NCAA qualifiers from 35 universities. The average grade point average for the all-academic team was 3.41.
Siemon, a native of Paramus, New Jersey and a graduate of Don Bosco Preparatory High School, is now a three-time NWCA Academic All-American, and a three-time Hofstra Athletics Academic Honor Roll recipient. He has also earned the CAA Commissioner's Academic Award.
Siemon was a three-time NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship qualifier and was ranked 11th in the country this season at 174 pounds. He was the CAA champion at 174 pounds in 2005, posting a 26-9 overall record and a 13-4 dual mark as the Pride captured their fourth straight CAA championship. He led the team in victories by decision with 15 and placed second at the prestigious Las Vegas Invitational.
Siemon, who was also a CAA finalist in 2002 and 2004, finished his career with an overall record of 86-39.
