Sue (Weber) Alber, a women’s soccer student-athlete from 2005 to 2007, helped the Pride to Colonial Athletic Association Championships and NCAA Tournament berths in 2005 and 2007.

Alber became the first player in program history to earn All-America honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) in 2005, and then earned the honor once again in 2007.

The Islip, New York, native was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Year in each of her three seasons at Hofstra and was the CAA Championship Most Outstanding Player in 2005 and 2007. She helped the Pride to a then school-record 18 wins as a senior that included the Pride’s first-ever NCAA Tournament win. Hofstra also set a school record for shutouts in 2007 with 12 including a program best seven consecutive clean sheets.

Alber was both a three-time NSCAA All-Region and All-CAA honoree. Outstanding in the classroom, she is one of only 25 Hofstra student-athletes to ever earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors and she was twice named Academic All-District.

In 2008 her jersey number 20 was retired by Hofstra and she is one of only 26 Pride student-athletes to ever earn that distinction.

After graduating from Hofstra with a degree in physical education, Alber was drafted in the third round (18th overall) by the Boston Breakers in the Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) general draft. After spending time with the Breakers, Weber was selected seventh overall by the Philadelphia Independence via the 2009 Women’s Professional Soccer expansion draft. She then went on to play for the Long Island Rough Riders for eight seasons (2010-17). During her time with the Rough
Riders, she was an all-league defender in the USL W-League and was named the league’s Defender of the Year. She was also named to the 2015 W-League All-Conference Team.

Alber and her husband, Ron, whom she met at Hofstra, married in 2010. Together they have two children, Grace and Lily. The Albers coach locally with SUSA FC while Sue is also the girls’ varsity coach at St. Anthony’s High School, where she led the Friars to two state titles and was named the New York State Co-Coach of the Year in 2018.
