ROBERT RIESENBERGER
Robert Riesenberger, a baseball student-athlete from 1947 through 1949, was a starter at second base in all three of his playing seasons. As a junior in 1948, Robert batted .326 and teamed with Hofstra College Hall of Famer Roy Triebel to break the conference record for double plays turned.
As a senior Robert captained the team, batted .401 and led the team with 32 hits, eight doubles, three home runs, 24 runs and 29 RBIs on his way to All-Met Conference honors.
Upon graduating he was offered a contract to play with the Pittsburgh Pirate organization but due to family considerations, turned it down.
Robert then played semi-pro baseball and was a teammate of Carl Yastrzemski, Sr., whose son, Carl, Jr., served as a batboy before going on to star with the Boston Red Sox.
