McKeon, a 1953 Hofstra graduate, is chairman emeritus of Kemark Financial Services Inc., a firm he co-founded in the early 1980s that is a recognized leader in the financial services industry. The company and its subsidiaries have developed an array of commercial insurance products and specialty services for this industry over these many years. After attending Hofstra followed by military service with the United States Marine Corps, he began a career in the insurance industry with the international brokerage firm of Johnson & Higgins, where he served as vice president until 1974. Prior to organizing Kemark Financial Services Inc., he was senior vice president at Fred S. James & Company, a large multinational insurance brokerage firm. McKeon was also among the recipients of Hofstra University's 2002 Award for Alumni Achievement and was an honorary degree recipient in 2010. In 2005 he was a recipient of the The Joseph M. Margiotta Award, which is given by the Department of Athletics in recognition of extraordinary dedication, generosity and service to the Hofstra Athletics Pride Club and Hofstra Athletics. McKeon and his wife, Cathy, both active philanthropists, have been ardent supporters of the Pride for decades and have been leaders in numerous capital campaigns. The couple, along with business partner Mark Wei, also established an endowed athletic scholarship in 2003 which is presented each year to a student-athlete selected on the basis of academic achievement and/or financial need.
