Liz Curley (Messmer), a volleyball student-athlete from 2003 to 2006, was the first American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American in program history after earning honorable mention accolades as a senior.

A member of Hofstra’s 2006 NCAA Tournament team, Curley played a key role in leading the Pride to their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory over Cornell with 20 kills, eight blocks, five digs, and four service aces.

The middle blocker from Centerville, Massachusetts, played in 406 sets in 112 matches during her four years and tallied 1,160 kills, 453 blocks, 242 digs, 128 service aces, and a .358 hitting percentage during her tenure. Currently, Curley ranks 10th all-time at Hofstra in kills, third in hitting percentage, and fifth in blocks.

She was the 2003 Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year and the 2006 CAA Player of the Year. Curley was also a two-time All-CAA selection.

An exercise specialist major at Hofstra, Curley would go on to earn a doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Vermont in 2010. She would serve as a physical therapist at Bride Brook Health and Rehabilitation in Connecticut for four years before moving to Congers, New York, in 2016 to take a position at Tolstoy Nursing and Rehabilitation.

A decorated high school athlete, Curley was inducted into the Barnstable (MA) High School Hall of Fame in 2012.

Curley and her husband, Mike, have two daughters - Madelyn and Abigail.
