ANDREW RUMPELT

Andrew "Dewey" Rumpelt was a member of the baseball team from 1982 to 1986 and is still ranked in the Hofstra career top 10 in nearly every major offensive category.

An All-East Coast Conference selection as a junior and senior, he batted .504 in 1985, which ranked second in the nation that season. It now stands as the 13th highest single season average in NCAA Division I history.

Andrew also holds the NCAA record for runs scored per game with 57 in 30 games (1.9 rpg) during the 1985 season. That year he was named to the NCAA All-District team, missing the All-America distinction by one vote.

As a freshman in 1982, Andrew batted .319. After missing the 1983 season, he returned to hit .324 in 1984 with four home runs and 14 RBIs. In 1985 he had a breakout season. In addition to his .504 average, he also tallied 15 doubles, seven home runs, 23 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. He closed out his career in 1986 with a .445 average, 14 doubles, nine home runs, 27 RBIs and 21 stolen bases.

A lifetime .416 hitter, Andrew finished his Hofstra career with 39 doubles, 20 home runs, seven triples, 70 RBIs, 139 runs scored and 43 stolen bases.

A natural right-handed batter, he became an accomplished switch-hitter after suffering a serious left wrist injury during his freshman year. Now an avid golf and hockey player, he continues to play both left and right-handed in those sports.

A 1986 graduate with a degree in business, Andrew now serves as vice president for marketing and business for Kantar Media/Marx Corporation. He is recognized as one of the nation's leading authorities on coupon tracking and analysis in the consumer package goods industry, and a leader in the development of innovative customized and syndicated services. He will serve as co-chair of the industry's national conference in 2011.

Andrew credits the quality education in business that he received at Hofstra for giving him a great start on his successful career. He also pays tribute to the late Bob Borowicz, the coach who served as a role model in both baseball and life.

The father of two daughters - Natalie (12) and Emma (11) - Andrew lives in the Albany, New York area.
