Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Wrestling team continues with their six-match road trip this weekend with two more Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) matches.
The Pride will head to Fairfield, Connecticut on Saturday, February 9 to face the Pioneers of Sacred Heart at the William H. Pitt Center at 7 p.m. before heading to upstate New York on Sunday, February 10 to square off against the Bearcats of Binghamton at West Gym at 3:30 p.m.
Sacred Heart will provide a live video stream and live statistics while Binghamton will provide only a live video stream. Links for all can be found elsewhere on this page as well as on the Hofstra Wrestling schedule page on GoHofstra.com.
Hofstra is coming off a 1-1 week in two EIWA matches this past Saturday. The Pride dropped a 25-18 decision at Columbia Saturday afternoon before driving three hours and defeating Franklin and Marshall in the nightcap, 19-12 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
In the first match at Columbia, the Pride led 15-3 after four matches behind a major decision by junior
Omar Haddad at 285, a tech fall win by freshman
Dylan Ryder at 125, and a win by fall by sophomore
Garrett Lambert at 141. But the Lions responded with five consecutive victories before Pride senior
Nezar Haddad ended the match with a sudden victory decision.
In the nightcap at Franklin and Marshall, Hofstra won six of the first eight matches, including a major decision by senior
Ryan Burkert, to roll to the 19-12 victory. Ryder, who recorded his team-high 21
st victory of the season, extended his winning streak to 10 consecutive matches.
Hofstra, which is now 5-10 on the season and 1-4 in EIWA matches, is led by Ryder, who is 21-9 overall and 13-2 in dual matches this season. Freshman
Holden Heller is 11-7 overall and 8-3 in duals at 149 while sophomore
Garrett Lambert is 12-11 at 141 this year. Sophomore
Ricky Stamm is 13-12 on the year and 8-7 in dual matches at 165.
Sacred Heart is 5-5 on the season and 1-3 in EIWA matches. The Pioneers have wins over Bloomsburg (24-19), The Citadel (24-22), Davidson (27-19), Franklin and Marshall (19-18) and American International (43-9). Their losses have come against Appalachian State (55-0), VMI (20-19), Bucknell (40-0), Binghamton (34-7) and Columbia (34-4). Sacred Heart is led by Kyle Davis, who is 10-5 at 184 pounds, and Brandon Levesque, who is 12-9 at 165.
Binghamton is 5-3 overall and 4-1 in the EIWA this season. The Bearcats have wins over Pennsylvania (24-12), Columbia (23-12), Harvard (33-14), Brown (19-15) and Sacred Heart (34-7). Their losses have come against Cornell (36-6), Buffalo (29-10), and Army (30-7). Binghamton is led by Lou Deprez, who is 21-4 at 184-pounds, Anthony Sparacio, who is 19-8 at 141, and Vincent Deprez, who is 15-9 at 174-pounds.
Following Sunday match at Binghamton, the Pride will wrap-up their six match road swing as they will head north on Saturday, February 16 for EIWA matches at Brown at 1 p.m. and at Harvard at 5 p.m.
