Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University Head Men's Basketball Coach
Joe Mihalich announced today his squad's upcoming non-conference schedule.
"It is always an exciting time when schedules are released as it allows the team and fan base to get ready for the upcoming season," commented Mihalich. "This year's non-conference schedule is one that we are really looking forward to as it offers our team plenty of opportunities to compete against quality opponents and to play in great tournaments and at spectacular venues. We can't wait to see the Pride fans out supporting the team this season."
The 12-game slate will feature three home games at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex and Hofstra will also host a game at Adelphi University as well.
Two other exciting parts of the Pride's schedule will include a visit to the Charleston Classic in Charleston, South Carolina and a game against Villanova at NYCB Live.
Hofstra's 16 opponents (including possible opponents) combined to win nearly 300 games, an average of more than 18 victories per squad. Five of the Pride's opponents advanced to postseason play a season ago with Dayton and Villanova making it to the NCAA Tournament and Clemson and Monmouth earning NIT bids.
The schedule gets started with a pair of home games as Hofstra will host Army West Point on Friday, November 10 before facing Kennesaw State on Monday, November 13.
Following the two home contests, the Pride will head on the road for four games with three of them at the Charleston Classic and the fourth at Siena on Saturday, November 25. The Charleston Classic will be played at TD Arena on the campus of the College of Charleston, a place Hofstra is quite familiar with as it is the home of the Pride's Colonial Athletic Association rival. The tournament will take place November 16-19 with all games being broadcast on the ESPN family of networks.
Hofstra concludes November by hosting local Division II opponent Molloy on Thursday, November 30 before beginning December with three straight road games.
The month gets started with two visits to the state of New Jersey as Hofstra faces Monmouth on Wednesday, December 6 and then travels to Rider on Saturday, December 9. The final game of the three straight away from home will see the Pride head east on Long Island to face their Island rival Stony Brook on Tuesday, December 12.
On Wednesday, December 20, Hofstra will host Manhattan in a unique home game that will be played at Adelphi's Center for Recreation and Sports. The site change was due to Hofstra's Winter Commencement taking place at the Mack Sports Complex that day. In addition, final exams during the Fall 2017 semester conclude on December 20 and no athletic participation is permitted during the exam period (December 14-20). With more than a week between Hofstra's last game and the contest against Villanova, Coach Mihalich felt it necessary to keep his team sharp as they prepare to face one of the nation's best teams.
The Pride's final non-conference game of the season will also be the program's most-anticipated one in quite some time as Hofstra will face former Head Coach Jay Wright and Villanova on Friday, December 22 at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum presented by New York Community Bank.
