Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University Head Men's Basketball Coach
Joe Mihalich announced today that Kenny Wormley has signed a National Letter of Intent with the University. He will begin his academic and athletic career at Hofstra this fall and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Wormley, a native of Landover, Maryland, joins Hofstra from Indian Hills Community College in Iowa.
"We are excited about bringing someone with Kenny's experience and winning attitude into the program," commented Mihalich. "Kenny has been a major reason for his team's success during his two years in college as both squads have advanced to postseason play. We believe Kenny is precisely what next year's team needs to be successful in the Colonial Athletic Association. He plays a complete game, has the ability to stuff the stat sheet in a variety of categories and his length at 6-4 will immediately improve our defense. More than anything…he is a winner."
A 6-4, 175 lbs guard, Wormley played last season as Indian Hills and helped the team to a 29-5 record and a spot in the 2017 NJCAA National Basketball Championship. He scored in double figures 15 times in 2016-17, including a 16-point effort against Daytona State. Wormley was also named to the All-Region XI First Team.
Wormley is an experienced NCAA Division I student-athlete as he spent his freshman season at Siena College where he started 28 of the 34 games he played in for the Saints. Siena won 21 games that season and Wormley posted season-highs of 14 points (vs. Manhattan), eight rebounds (at Fairfield) and seven assists (vs. Marist).
Wormley attended the Riverdale Baptist School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland prior to his time at Siena. He helped the Crusaders to a 30-9 record. Wormley was named second team all-conference honorable mention as a senior, in addition to earning All-Met, All-Gazette and Riverdale Baptist MVP accolades.
