ATH: Three Hofstra Student-Athletes Attend WSF Athlete Leadership Connection Event

Hempstead, NY - This past Tuesday, Hofstra Women's Basketball student-athletes Aleana Leon and Kayla Minott, and softball student-athlete Nikki Michalowski attended the Women's Sports Foundation Athlete Leadership Connection at Morgan Stanley's International Headquarters in New York City.

This full-day development conference brings together industry leaders, sports experts and champion athletes to address the specific issues that female athletes face while competing in their sport or in the transition from their competitive careers to their next professional opportunity. This invitation-only conference hosts Olympic and World Champion athletes, as well as collegiate student-athletes. More than 30 Olympic and professional athletes were in attendance this year, as well as 45 senior student-athletes from 15 schools. In addition 50+ sports and business professionals were on hand to share their expertise.

The day also featured breakout sessions that focused on interview skills and resume building, and attendees were then given the opportunity to interview with companies specifically tailored to their career goals. Tennis great Billie Jean King and highly-decorated U.S. Paralympian Bonnie St. John delivered keynote addresses.

Each of the Pride's student-athletes enjoyed their experience at the event. "I feel blessed and honored to have experienced an amazing day with the Women's Sports Foundation, surrounded by such influential and empowered women," said Michalowski. "It was amazing to be mentored and to learn lessons from past and present female athletes, to learn about how far we have come and about the impact we are able to have on future generations as athletes."

"It was a great event!" said Leon. "You had the chance to connect with so many female athletes, but also successful females who excel in what they do. It was great way to network."

Minott concurred with her teammate, saying "I thought the Athlete Leadership Connection was a great experience to meet student-athletes, professional athletes and amazing women in the workforce. It was an outstanding learning and networking opportunity."
