WSOC: Stobbs Signs Professional Contract With Reading FC

Amber Stobbs
Hempstead, N.Y. – Former Hofstra forward Amber Stobbs has signed a professional contract with Reading FC.

Stobbs will join the Royals as the team prepares for its first season in the top level of the Football Association Women's Super League (FA WSL). Stobbs had previous played for the W League's Washington Spirit Reserves.

Stobbs was a five-year member of the Hofstra Women's Soccer program from 2010-14. She ended her final collegiate season with a career-high three goals, five assists and 11 points in 2014 in guiding the Pride to an appearance in the Colonial Athletic Association championship game. Stobbs was also a key member of the 2012 squad that won the CAA title and earned a NCAA Tournament berth. The London native played 66 total games for Hofstra and scored nine goals.

In July, Stobbs helped the Washington Spirit Reserves win the W-League championship after a regular season in which the team went 9-0-3 for 30 points and allowed just goals. Stobbs posted one goal and three assists in the regular season.

The FA WSL 1 is the highest league of women's soccer in England. There are nine teams in the top tier, and the champions and runners-up qualify for the UEFA Women's Champions League the following season. Some of the clubs are affiliated with prestigious Premier League clubs, including Manchester City W.F.C. Liverpool, Aresenal and Chelsea. Other clubs in WSL 1 include Birmingham City, Doncaster Rovers Belles, Notts County and Sunderland.

Reading will start the 2016 season March 23 against Arsenal. The team plays its home games at Adams Park.
