5/20/2015 9:30:00 AM

Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University Head Men's Basketball Coach Joe Mihalich announced today the addition of Hunter Sabety (Oceanside, NY) to the program.

"We are thrilled to add Hunter to our team," commented Mihalich. "Hunter has the ability to play a very important role for our program over the next three years and it is exciting to add someone from the Long Island area to our roster. Please join our program in welcoming Hunter to the Hofstra community. Go Pride!"

Sabety (pronounced suh-bay-tee) spent his freshman and sophomore campaigns at Tufts University (MA) and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining after sitting out the 2015-16 season due to NCAA transfer regulations.

A 6-8, 240 pound forward, Sabety hails from Oceanside, New York and attended Oceanside High School.

Sabety had a solid sophomore season in 2014-15 for the Jumbos as he averaged 14.9 points and 7.3 rebounds in 15 games played (14 starts) for Tufts in helping the team to a 13-12 overall record. He led the team in both scoring and rebounding, while also adding 26 blocks (second on team), 10 steals and nine assists. Sabety averaged 26.1 minutes per game.

During his freshman year in 2013-14, Sabety led Tufts in scoring at 14.8 points per outing and was second in rebounds per game (6.6) and first in overall rebounds (158). He also added 67 blocked shots (team-high), nine steals and four assists. Sabety started 21 of the 24 games he played in and averaged 22.9 minutes per outing. The Jumbos were also 13-12 during the 2013-14 campaign.

During his senior season at Oceanside, Sabety averaged 22 points, 17 rebounds and eight blocked shots per game and earned All-County honors for the second time in his career. He was also the runner-up in his conference for player of the year accolades. He had six triple-doubles as a senior and also departed Oceanside as the program's all-time leader in blocked shots.
