MBB: Hofstra Signs Pemberton To NLI

Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University Head Men's Basketball Coach Joe Mihalich announced today that Elijah Pemberton has signed a National Letter of Intent with the University and will begin his academic and athletic career with the Pride starting with the 2016-17 academic year.

"We are thrilled to add such a dynamic play-maker to our program," commented Mihalich. "Elijah is an outstanding addition to not only our team, but the Hofstra community. His infectious personality, dedication to being a great student-athlete and his exceptional ability on the court will help our program continue its ascent. We can't wait to get him on campus. Go Pride!"

Pemberton, a 6-4 guard, resides in Middletown, Connecticut and attends Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, Connecticut.

A member of the Fighting Cats, Pemberton has increased his scoring average in each of his last three high school seasons. Last year he exploded for 23 points per game, while also adding more than eight rebounds and five assists per outing. That came on the heels of a season in which he averaged 16 points, five rebounds and five assists per outing. In his freshman season he averaged nine points, nearly five rebounds and more than two assists per game.

It was a banner junior year for Pemberton last season as he was named to the All-State First Team, All-SCC First Team and Second Team All-NEPSAC. He also earned the team MVP award.
