Hempstead, N.Y. – The Hofstra Softball program signed four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent, Head Coach
Larissa Anderson announced today.
Infielder Courtney Scarpato, catcher Madison Ambush, first baseman Gabrielle Bram and pitcher/shortstop Madison Grimm will begin their academic and athletic careers at Hofstra starting in the 2015-16 academic year.
"I'm very excited to have these four student-athletes sign with us," Anderson said. "All the members of this class are tremendous athletes with unique skills that fit perfectly into our program and philosophy. Their commitment to our program excites me the most and I'm looking forward to them adding to our winning tradition."
Scarpato, from Springfield, Pennsylvania, led Springfield High School to the first PIAA championship in school history in 2014. As the team's ace pitcher, Scarpato took the circle in every game of the District One and PIAA Class AAA playoffs in earning a spot on the All-Delco team. She shut out Bethlehem Catholic, 3-0, in the PIAA championship game and was a force hitting near the top of the lineup as well for a team that won the Central League crown. Scarpato batted .419 with a .519 on-base percentage and a .570 slugging percentage while driving in 16 runs and scoring 29. She also plays for the club team PA Chaos Gold.
Ambush (New Market, Maryland) helped Linganore High School to the Class 3A state championship game in 2014, where she smashed an RBI double and drew an intentional walk before her school fell to Northern (Calvert). Ambush was a key player for Linganore advancing to the final game, as she lined a RBI single and added another RBI in a semifinal victory over Mt. Hebron in front of a crowd that the
Baltimore Sun reported to be close to 600 people. Ambush also plays for the Maryland Heartbreakers Gold club team.
Bram (Jackson, New Jersey) was named the to the
Asbury Park Press Class B North team as an infielder. In 75 at-bats, Bram registered 29 hits with 13 RBIs and 14 runs scored, according to NJ.com. Bram was an honorable mention to the All-Shore Softball Team in 2014. Her travel team is the NJ Intensity Gold.
Grimm (Hampstead, Maryland) pitches and plays the infield for Manchester Valley High School. In her first season at the school since transferring from North Carroll, Grimm led Manchester Valley to a 16-6 record and the Class 1A state championship. She was named the
Carroll County Times Player of the Year. As a sophomore in 2013, she won 15 games with a 1.36 ERA and a county-leading 232 strikeouts while hitting .369 with eight home runs. She twice earned the newspaper's first-team all-county honors at North Carroll before transferring. Her travel team is the Maryland Heartbreakers.
