Hempstead, NY – For the second consecutive week and the third time this season, Hofstra University senior outside hitter
Kelsie Wills has been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced this morning by the conference office.
Wills previously earned CAA Player of the Week honors on September 1 and September 22.
It was a monumental week for the Matamata, New Zealand native as Wills became the program's all-time leader in kills as she broke Lena Malinowski's record during the fourth set of Friday's four-set win over Elon.
Wills continued to cement herself as arguably the greatest player in program history as she had another outstanding week, leading Hofstra to a pair of victories and setting the program record for career kills in the process.
Wills averaged a spectacular 5.71 kills and three digs per set, while hitting at a .369 clip this week. She finished with 23 kills at Elon and then added 17 in the sweep of UNCW on Sunday. In the fourth set in the match against Elon, Wills broke the school record for career kills, a record that had stood since 1998 in a program steeped in tradition. She broke the mark established by Lena Malinowski (1994-98) of 1,654 and she now has 1,674 career kills to become the new standard bearer at Hofstra.
Wills influence can be felt in other areas as well as she added 21 digs this week, including a personal season-high 17 in the win over Elon. She is the main reason behind Hofstra's 14-2 start, the second-best in program history after 16 matches.
Wills leads Hofstra with 238 kills, 4.33 kills per set and 25 service aces this season. She is second on the team with 139 digs and fourth with 34 blocks.
Hofstra returns to action on Friday when it hosts Towson at 7 p.m.
