Ed Gaffney
Ed Gaffney played soccer at Hofstra in 1968 and 1969 and was the first All-American in program history.
Ed came to Hofstra in 1968 after six months at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. He immediately made his mark on the pitch as he helped Hofstra to its first NCAA Tournament that season, scoring a school-record 19 goals in pacing the Pride to a 15-2-1 record. In 1969 Ed continued his scoring prowess with 18 goals and was named to the Honorable Mention All-America team.
In his two seasons Ed tallied 37 goals, 10 assists and 84 points. His 37 goals rank fourth in program history, and he holds the top two single season goal scoring marks as well.
After graduating from Hofstra, Ed has been an educator at the high school and collegiate level, as well as a strategic planning and corporate team development specialist, an executive coach and a speaker at national and international conferences.
Along with his wife, Donna, and five of their six children, Ed has also devoted time to doing missionary work in the Far East. He is currently the Director of Pastoral Services for the Diocese of Colorado Springs in Colorado, where he oversees the implementation of the diocesan plan, facilitates leadership and team development, and ensures the successful implementation of the Bishops’ Charter for the Protection of Children and Youth in every parish and school.
